Every serious small business claims Google Business Profile. Almost none of them claim Bing Places. That was a defensible oversight in 2022 — Bing was 3% of search and skewed older. In 2026 it's the pipe behind ChatGPT search, Microsoft Copilot, Edge, and DuckDuckGo, and it drives roughly 30% of AI-referred local traffic.
The good news: Bing Places is free, the setup takes 30 minutes, and you can import everything directly from your Google profile. Here's the 2026 walkthrough.
Why Bing Places suddenly matters again
Three things changed. First, ChatGPT search runs on Bing's index — when someone asks ChatGPT "best dentist near me," it's a Bing query under the hood. Second, Microsoft Copilot became the default AI assistant on hundreds of millions of Windows devices. Third, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Yahoo all resolve to Bing.
If your business isn't in Bing Places, none of those tools can verify who you are, where you are, or whether to recommend you. A missing Bing Places listing in 2026 is what a missing Google Business Profile was in 2018.
Claim your Bing Places listing in 30 minutes
The fast path: import from Google, then verify
- Go to bingplaces.com and sign in with a Microsoft account (use a business email, not personal).
- Choose "Import from Google My Business" — authorize Google, then select your location. Bing pre-fills every field.
- Review the imported fields (name, address, phone, hours, categories, photos). Fix anything that didn't map cleanly.
- Pick a verification method — phone (instant), email (minutes, if offered), or postcard (5–7 business days US).
- Publish. Bing indexes new listings in 24–72 hours; AI tools pick it up on their next crawl.
If you don't have a Google Business Profile yet, do that first — the import saves 20 minutes and locks in NAP consistency across both.
The Bing Places fields that actually affect ranking
- Business name — must match your legal name and your Google listing. No keyword stuffing (Bing penalizes this the same way Google does).
- Primary category — Bing's category list is smaller than Google's. Pick the closest match; you can add up to 9 secondary categories.
- Service area — for mobile / service-area businesses. Add up to 10 cities or ZIP codes.
- Hours — including holiday hours. Bing surfaces "Open now" status directly in the map pack.
- Photos — 10+ minimum. Cover photo is the one Copilot returns in AI answers, so pick it deliberately.
- Website URL — use the exact URL from your Google profile, matching protocol (https) and trailing slash.

What Bing Places does NOT include
- Native reviews. Bing aggregates reviews from Yelp, Facebook, TripAdvisor, and other sources. There is no "leave a review on Bing" button. To improve your Bing review presence, work those source platforms — see our review generation playbook (same principles apply to Yelp and Facebook).
- Posts or updates. Bing Places has no equivalent to Google Business Profile Posts. Your social presence lives on the platforms themselves.
- Messaging. No direct message inbox. Bing drives users to your phone number, website, or booking link.
The wider picture: Bing is one of 70+ directories
Bing Places is high-leverage — it powers a whole family of AI search tools — but it's still just one listing. Apple Business Connect (which powers Siri and Apple Maps), Facebook, Yelp, Yahoo, Foursquare, and about 60 other sources all pull from your business data too. If any of them is wrong or missing, you're invisible on that surface.
Doing this manually is a full weekend and it drifts within 90 days as hours, phone numbers, and addresses change. See our guides on how to manage business listings and how to fix incorrect business listings for the full playbook.
